Pimco’s Balls reveals ‘innovative’ additions to $9bn bond fund

Citywire + rated Andrew Balls is venturing into new territory to add innovation to his $9.8 billion Pimco GIS Global Bond fund, but he remains wary of being forced into volatile or illiquid areas.

Balls, who is chief investment officer for global bonds at the group, spoke to Citywire Selector about the challenges of finding yield without over-exposing yourself at the wrong point in the cycle.

The bond market veteran, who also discussed ambitions to expand the firm’s ESG-focused fund range, outlined why he has sold down risk assets and where he is reallocating capital.
