Q&A with George Houston, senior technical and development manager, Mattioli Woods, Glasgow: 
What is your typical client demographic?
Our individual wealth management clients are spread across a wide age and career stage range; this is perhaps a function of the close relationship that exists between the wealth management and employee benefits teams.

The latter offers consultancy to a number of large employers across a range of benefits options. Many of their employees look to us to provide individual advice, which we can facilitate through our wealth management consultancy team.

What differentiates your location? 
Our large office in Glasgow allows us to tap into the talent in the central belt of Scotland and to recruit the right people who fit our ethos and culture.

With a growing number of offices, our technology is built to facilitate a flexible workforce who can work from anywhere in the country. This has proved invaluable in recruiting specialist support staff where there has been a lack of supply elsewhere.

What challenges are facing your area?
We doubled our office space this year which allowed us the opportunity to overcome an increasing ‘lack of space to grow’ challenge. Glasgow has changed so much over the years. It continues to develop as a great
and confident city and is a great place to do business.

What’s the best thing about living in your area?
As a Glasgow lad born and bred, I have to say it’s the people – warm and friendly with a great sense of humour. I’m told the shopping is decent too.

What’s a typical regional saying?
The options are endless. I’ll keep it clean and go for: “Did ye, aye!?”

What is your office motto?
Our investment motto is ‘conviction with agility’.
