Q&A with Richard Brown, director and head of Yorkshire office, Kleinwort Hambros, Leeds (pictured below)
What is your typical client demographic?
Primarily first generation business owners, or retired entrepreneurs ― not that they ever truly retire!
What differentiates your region?
Yorkshire is the largest county in England, with two national parks and plenty of historic towns and cities. Our region is one of the top tourist destinations in the UK, has the largest financial centre outside of London, and an ever growing IT and media sector. Overall, it is a vibrant and enjoyable place to live and work.
What challenges are facing your local area?
Transport infrastructure and the ability of employees to be able to move around the North quickly and efficiently is a problem.
What is the best thing about living in your region?
Across the Yorkshire region, being close to a city from a commercial perspective is nice, as well as having fantastic and varied countryside close at hand.
What is a typical saying in your region?
Where there’s muck, there’s brass.
Bullish or bearish?
Depends on the geographic region, but overall we are marginally ahead of our neutral stance in relation to risk assets, taking into account the attractive valuations. However, this is continually being reviewed given that negative momentum which now persists across some asset classes (including equities) and there are signs that the economic environment may be deteriorating.
What is your office motto?
Client service is paramount.
