Hugh Young: the buck stops with me on Asia recovery

Hugh Young, head of Asia at Aberdeen Standard Investments, has been investing in the region for over three decades.

In a wide-ranging interview, he discusses the underperformance of the group's Asia funds and investment trusts in recent years, and in particular on the changes at Aberdeen Standard Asia Focus (AAS), formerly Aberdeen Asian Smaller Companies, where he has resumed personal control, and on the decision to include more technology stocks in the portfolios.

Last year was a difficult one for markets in Asia, but with his trusts trading on discounts of up to 14% below asset value and stuffed with 'great' companies with good prospects, Young describes them as 'standout bargains'.
