George Osborne to join brother's Silicon Valley fund

George Osborne to join brother's Silicon Valley fund

Former chancellor George Osborne has landed himself another job, taking a position at his brother’s San Francisco-based venture capital firm.

According to the Financial Times, he will become an adviser to Silicon Valley firm 9yards Capital.

The business is run by Osborne’s brother Theo Osborne and raises money to invest in ‘decentralised finance’.

This is believed to be Osborne’s ninth role since leaving the government. He is currently editor of the London Evening Standard, and chairman of the Northern Powerhouse project. He also works as a special adviser to asset management giant BlackRock, earning approximately £650,000 a year.

In addition, Osborne is also a public speaker for the Washington Speaker Bureau and a fellow of the McCain institute.

Theo Osborne said that Osborne has not invested money in 9yards Capital and is not a partner.

Osborne is not the only political figure from the UK to get a job in Silicon Valley. Back in October Facebook announced that it appointed former deputy prime minister Nick Clegg as head of global affairs.
