Arbuthnot creates key regional role for ex-Coutts man

Arbuthnot has created a new role for director Chris Reah, heading its regional strategy as the firm targets growth outside London.

Chris Reah, who joined Arbuthnot from Coutts in 2014 as a senior private banker and became a director a year later, will serve as head of regional strategy.

Andy Broughton, previously the bank's commercial director in the north of England, will now lead the 11-strong team of its Manchester office, which opened in 2014.

This follows the departure of former Manchester head Nick Cringle, who left after three years in the job to join Brown Shipley as its first north west regional boss.

The appointments are part the firm's goal to expand its offering across the country, the firm said.

Reah said: 'We have seen a great response across regional offices; collectively assets under management, deposits and lending have doubled over the last two years and our client base has increased threefold.

'We are delighted to reaffirm our commitment to serving the needs of entrepreneurs, business owners and wealth generators across the country.'

In July 2018 the bank reported client assets of £1.07 billion and a 10% rise in profits to £5.4 million.

Deputy chief executive Stephen Fletcher (pictured) said: 'These appointments help to expand our offering for private banking clients outside of the capital.

'The SME market has been underserved by the banking sector, and this is particularly to outside of London.  We are making encouraging inroads as we execute our plans to ensure more UK SMEs can benefit from our ‘private banking-style’ relationship led offer.'
