Europe's 10 richest football clubs

KPMG's annual study into the richest football clubs in Europe underlines the dominance of the Premier League.

Football boom

KPMG's annual study into the 'enterprise value' of Europe's top football clubs revealed the value of the continent's 32 richest teams stood at €30 billion (£26 billion) in 2016, an increase of 14% on the previous year.

The enterprise values take into account a range of factors, including revenues from sponsorship and broadcasting deals, prize money, merchandise sales and stadium receipts. It also includes factors such as the potential value of a club’s players in the transfer market and the club’s profitability. English teams dominate the study, occupying six of the top 10 spots.

'While this is partially explained by football's broadcasting boom, the internationalisation of the clubs' commercial operations, their investment into privately-owned and modern facilities, and overall more sustainable management practices, are also key reasons for this growth,' KPMG's global head of sports and the report's author Andrea Sartori said.
